2016-2017 6th Grade Class

June 13 - 16 Social-Emotional Learning Curriculum

The Responsive Classroom (http://www.responsiveclassroom.org) curriculum will be implemented during the 2017-2018 school year.

Priority: Promoting a Culture of Tolerance

We are committed to collaborating with our stakeholders to achieve changes that create and promote a culture of tolerance and acceptance at MWES!  Here's how we plan to do so:

1.  Social-Emotional Learning Curriculum - Teachers will be trained on the Responsive Classroom (http://www.responsiveclassroom.org) curriculum from June 13-16, 2017.  The program will be implemented during the 2017-2018 school year.

2.  Playworks - Recess aides and 2 teachers received a 3-hour on campus training on the http://www.playworks.org/about/how-playworks model to incorporate structured play opportunities for our students during recess.

3.  Student Counseling Services - On March 7, Restorative Justice Advisor Marco Flores and Nora, Belmont High School's Restorative Justice Teacher gave the teachers a refresher on community circles.  They also worked with the teachers on planning future circle topics.

4.  Play Leaders - starting March 6, 15 trained Student Council members (3rd-6th graders) assumed leadership roles on the school yard to support the younger students.  3 groups of 5 students will alternate on a weekly basis to 5 different play areas.

5.  Beyond the Bell - On March 3, Edwin, a temporary staff member was assigned to this after school program.

Neighbors report that parents drive very aggressively and do not obey stop signs.  Let's also be good neighbors by not blocking driveways and parking legally.  Parents may not be aware, u-turns are illegal in front of the school on San Rafael.
